Elvis Country - May 2000 Releases

May 15, 2000 | Music
A couple of days ago the new re-re-releases of 4 original Elvis' albums arrived at our office. Of course the music is very familiar, there are no new songs, or even outtakes added to these albums. Only songs that appeared on other albums, which won't be re-re-released any more. BMG clearly stated that these releases are not for the fans, but for the general public. We tried to discover if there might be a reason to buy it when you're not a lunatic collector.

In general we can say (again) that the printwork is VERY poor. It is a shame how BMG delivered these CD's to the customers. We can't help but see a little disrespect for both their customers and the artist of the last century. All CD's has liner notes by Colin Escott, based on Jorgensen's A Life in Music. Not much extra here too.

I don't understand where this reviewer is coming from. The idea then (and should be now) to keep gems of Elvis' RCA album catalog, like the first three albums (newly re-issued in 2005), "From Elvis In Memphis," and, yes, "Elvis Country" in print for generations to come. The 2000 reissue of "Elvis Country" smartly adds bonus tracks from the same Nashville '70 sessions as well as additional evocative artwork on the back cover. The earlier CD-version of this album (presumably from the '80s or early '90's) can safely be replaced by this superb release, with fine liner notes, by the way. I don't see any of the print work problems the author mentions. Five years later, it would be terrific to see this under-rated album return to the fold. With a little hunting, one can still find this album, but only with some effort. It makes a great gift, too, for the casual fan who has the "big hits" only. It didn't get much better than with albums like "Elvis Country."
